I had a great weekend. So damnit if I’m not going to share it with you.
Friday
- I had a dinner/theater date with my good amigo. First we hit up Co Co Sala, which, I have to warn you, people seem to dress up for. I have to ask, Why? It’s just small plates and dessert and nice decor and loud music. It’s like Jaleo or Zaytinya or Cork or any of the other myriad of small plates restaurants in this city. That aside, it was very delicious. I got a strawberriy, basil and balsamic vinaigrette cocktail. Just terrific. We only had one small savory plate each, opting for a dessert tasting menu for each of us.
- Now, let me stop here and tell you, we had no idea what to expect with this place. All I saw was “dessert tasting menu” and $22 and said “okay.” What I didn’t bother to figure out was what, exactly, was meant by tasting menu and why, exactly, it cost $22. Bring me the dessert!
- So I picked the “American Classics” which involved stuff with familiar names (tiramisu, boston creme pie), and out comes a small plate with two bite sized desserts on it.
- $22!!!?
- I polish it off and hate myself for being sucked into this place. And THEN. The second plate comes. Four good sized desserts, each one richer than the last. I’m still dreaming about some sort of chocolate peanut butter concoction. I can’t even finish any of them (but I make an effort for that peanut butter thing).
- THIRD PLATE. Some more stuff with sugar and chocolate on it. I ate half of each out of obligation. My stomach is rebelling. I may need to vomit.
- So in conclusion if you are going to Co Co Sala either buy the desserts separately or SPLIT the tasting menu. But otherwise, very good. Will bring The Boy back.
- Saw The Sin Show, which was amazing. You know, I have to say, I don’t normally get into stuff that doesn’t involve getting drunk by myself while watching a Netflix film but for some reason I adore the Fringe festival. Probably because it’s cheap and different, like seeing a live experimental movie. Anyway, if it’s still showing, go see The Sin Show. And maybe consider joining Speakeasy DC.
Saturday
- Morning I did some homework (boo school) and then met up with my BFF for some hanging out time. We just kinda wandered around, catching the rays from the GORGEOUS day (GORGEOUS) and finally ended up at the Matchbox patio. They have this cocktail right now which is described as Firefly – sweet tea vodka – and lemonade. This will be my undoing. Going to buy Firefly ASAP.
- Saw “Up” which I just adored, when I wasn’t busy sobbing like an idiot. I love it. Can I pre-order it now? Anyone willing to go see it with me again?
- Back home for homework. Booo homework.
Sunday
- Early morning 10m training run. I’m tired just thinking about it. The girls in my new group aren’t as friendly as my last group but I’m not there to make friends.
- Brunch at Teaism, which remains largely ignored, it seems. I adore it. It’s definitely not traditional which means I probably can’t convince The Boy to go.
- Wandering around the Mall and the American History and Natural History museum. Another gorgeous day, plus free entertainment.
- Came home to a tired Boy (who was partying in South Beach all weekend, I know boohoo), out for dinner at our staple, Bourbon, and some vacation planning and bed at a ridiculously early hour.
Can you top that weekend? NO! Impossible!! Wait a minute…am I…yes, I AM going to New York City this weekend! And yes I’m going back to Momofuku Ssam! And yes…we are bo ssaming it! Is this not the best summer anyone has ever had?
